NCBA vice president of government affairs, Colin Woodall encouraged members to talk to legislators and state affiliations about their policy concerns during the policy forum.

“Even in most dire situations, we have won some big fights. The elimination of the child labor law proposal and the proposed changes to the transportation bill really helps our producers be able to continue raising cattle like they need to. That plus wins against the EPA and expanding trade,” he said. “We are hoping to pass a new farm bill now. That is a top priority.”

Since a new farm bill was not passed in 2012, congress extended the 2008 farm bill for one year. It will expire on Sept. 30, 2013. Agricultural groups like NCBA are working on specific areas of the bill that are of concern.
