Plan 300 day grazing system

Researchers at the University of Arkansas have developed a 300-grazing system that can put money into cattlemen’s pockets.

“Producers plan and manage for a hay crop because they know the can,” Tom Troxel, University of Arkansas Extension Specialist, said. “They can also plan and manage for a pasture crop.”

Speaking at the Pfizer Cattlemen’s College during the Cattle Industry Conference in Nashville, Tn., Troxel said producers first need to do a forage inventory, increase seasonal grazing, determine seasonal gaps in grazing system, plan ahead for the whole year., and adjust forage and livestock as needed.

Producers in the program already have recorded $200,000 in direct savings using the 300-day grazing program.
